Most students go to college with a grand idea of working out every day. Most colleges have a free fitness center and everyone thinks that they will all get that dream body they have always wanted. Therefore, you join college and start out strong for the first few weeks. Then the stress and assignments start setting in and going to the gym becomes more of a chore.

So, what should you do in order to stick to the routine? You have to identify what made you stop in the first place.

  1. Don’t you have enough time or energy?

You have to make time for all the things that you prioritize. If you squeeze in the gym into your weekly routine, then you will not have any excuse to skip out. Make sure that you get enough sleep, drink a lot of water and eating lots of protein for energy.

  1. Do you find the gym boring?

Is your workout strictly cardio? Running, walking and biking in one place for an hour or so is extremely boring. Cardio is helpful in creating a caloric deficit but it is only effective up to a certain point. If you want to build, your muscles hit the weights.

  1. Are you intimidated by the weight room?

If you are scared of what people will say about you, walk in with confidence, turn up your music, and just do your thing. The truth is no one is actually looking at you or judging you. The gym is a strict no judgement zone. If you do not know where to start, research. There are tons of guides on the web free beginner routines and programs. Squats, bicep curls, triceps extensions, abs, lateral raises, and burpees are a great place to start. Do not focus on the weight focus on the form.

  1. Set realistic gym expectations and goals

You can plan to go to the gym at least three of four days in a week. Do not set a goal of six times a week if you know that is not feasible. Determine the times when you are free. An hour gym session is enough to get you going. Prioritize and schedule it into your life.

Remember, there are ways for any lifestyle to get to the gym and start achieving those fitness goals.
