1) Why are some people healthy and some people not healthy? Whether or not people are healthy depends on a large number of factors, many of which are interconnected (Skolnik, 2012).
a) What are five leading factors that determine health in low and middle income countries, and how do they differ from those found in high income countries?
b) Explain four reasons for health and/or healthcare disparities worldwide.
c) Explain how knowledge of major determinants of health is an essential foundation for anyone interested in designing effective development strategies for global health.

2) Most North Americans and Europeans consider cancer, heart disease, or diabetes to be their number one health concern. But in many parts of the world infectious diseases remain responsible for a large proportion of deaths of children, the poor, and other vulnerable population groups (Jacobsen, 2014).
a) What are some of the factors contributing to the increase in HIV incidence and prevalence in some world regions and the decrease in other regions (provide two ideas)? How could additional infections be prevented? Explain two ideas.
b) Stigma and discrimination continue to be a challenge for HIV/AIDS patients and their families. What two remedies do you suggest for decreasing HIV/AIDs stigma and discrimination?
c) Many people with HIV infection would benefit from ARV therapy, but many do not have access to these drugs. Identify two of the barriers to accessing these medications and examples of how these two barriers can be overcome?

3) The issues and challenges of healthcare exist both domestically and worldwide. Globally, nurses are the largest group of healthcare providers (Dickenson Hazard, 2004). As the healthcare system continues to change, nursing as a profession will redefine its role as not only caregivers but as global leaders (Korniewicz & Palmer, 1997).
